(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that construction of the best tourism region in South Asia will commence in March next year in the South.
Participating in an observation tour in Dedduwa area in Galle, earmarked for Dedduwa Tourism Project, the Premier said the construction work in the Dedduwa Tourist Zone in Galle will begin by March. The Prime Minister emphasized that all these activities will be carried out conserving the environment.
The Prime Minister who arrived at the residence of late Geoffrey Bawa at Lunuganga, Galle held a special discussion with politicians and government officials.
He added that the government is determined to attract rich tourists to the country. The eco-system should be protected. The premier said that necessary measures are being taken to protect the environment and develop the region. Tourism industry will be expanded from Western Province to Southern parts of the country and areas such as, Monaragala.
“We hope to expand the tourism industry from Western Province to the South as well as to the Uva Province, and create job opportunities,” the Premier said.
He said Dedduwa is a new tourism project that will extend from the coast of Galle to Bentara River in harmony with the environment and is connected to Geoffrey Bawa’s vision.
Speaking at the occasion Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake said the government expects to create an environment conducive for tourists while protecting the environment to ensure a serene ambience.
He added that the new project will benefit people from different walks of life as the government will focus on well-off tourists.
