Speaker agrees to allocate Prime Minister’s seat in parliament to Mahinda Rajapaksa

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has agreed to grant Mahinda Rajapaksa the privileges entitled for the Prime Minister when the parliament opens. He will not obstruct the newly appointed Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa being allocated the Prime Minister’s seat in the Parliament at the next session.

Speaker Jayasuriya has made the decision following a request made by President Maithripala Sirisena.

Speaker’s office said that when the parliament reconvenes the legislators are bound follow the gazette issued and accordingly, n Prime Minister’s seat will be allocated for Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A meeting between the President and the Speaker took place yesterday and President’s decision to reconvene the parliament is expected today.
