(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will visit flood-affected Kilinochchi on Friday to review the disaster relief efforts and to meet with the relevant officials to work out a program to provide assistance to those affected by the recent floods in the Northern Province.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe is scheduled to visit some of the worst affected areas during his Kilinochchi tour, the Government Information Department said.
Addressing a media conference at Temple Trees in Colombo yesterday, Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena said the Premier will chair a special meeting with State officials and other relevant parties today to expedite relief to the flood affected people.
All Heads of State institutions, District Secretaries, Chief Secretaries of Provincial Councils and Commissioners of Local Authorities have been summoned to Colombo today for the meeting organized to discuss ways and means to mitigate the damages caused by the floods and providing relief to the affected people in the North.
Minister Abeywardena said the Government would provide compensation to the affected people and reconstruct damaged buildings and state owned properties.
A massive program will be launched to provide infrastructure facilities for the people affected by the adverse weather utilizing the human and physical resources of Local bodies and Divisional Secretariats, the Minister said.
