(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the United National Front ministers to abide by the circular issued by President Maithripala Sirisena to appoint Chairpersons and members to Boards of Directors of State enterprises including the statutory boards and public corporations.
The Prime Minister has commended the circular issued by the President as a very good move and said the Cabinet Ministers should follow the circular when appointing heads of state institutions.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe gave this directive during a meeting held with ministers and parliamentarians at the Temple Trees on Sunday.
The President has instructed Ministry secretaries that it is a must to act according to the circulars issued by the Secretary to the President when appointing Chairpersons and members to Boards of Directors of State enterprises including the statutory boards and public corporations.
The President has appointed a Committee to submit recommendations after inquiring the qualifications of the individuals to be appointed as Chairpersons or members to Director Boards of State enterprises.
Two representatives of the President, two representatives of the Prime Minister and representative of the Finance Ministry are included in the committee.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe pointed out that the President’s decision to appoint a committee issuing a circular to appoint heads of state institutions was a good decision, and said that all ministers should act accordingly.
