(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says it is necessary for the country to move forward with new technologies to deal with the world economy.
The Premier says a digital economy should be established in Sri Lanka to strengthen the national economy, and as a first step a digital education method is needed for the creation of a digital economy.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said the country is in an era of revolution in education and digital education system has been established to create a digital economy by creating smart classrooms in schools.
The Premier made these observations when he opened the new two storied building of the Hemamali Maha Vidyalaya in Ganemulla yesterday morning.
Speaking at the occasion, the Premier said the Cabinet of ministers has granted the approval to provide tablet computers to GCE Advanced Level students in all schools in the island and new paths will be opened for other students to go forward through new technology with opening of smart classrooms.
The Prime Minister after the opening of the new building exchanged pleasantries with the staff of the school including the Principal of the Hemamali Vidyalaya.
Thereafter, the Prime Minister joined in the vesting of the three storied classroom building and the Technical Faculty building of the Galahitiyawa Central College in Ganemulla. The Prime Minister was accorded a rousing welcome on arrival at the school.
