Special security plan for Poson festival in Anuradhapura from 11-16 June

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Minister of Buddha Sasana Gamini Jayawickrema Perera says the Poson celebrations will be held in Anuradhapura from the 11th to the 16th of this month.

Special Pirith chanting will be held in a railway compartment to bless the country and the people. The rail compartment will start traveling from Kurunegala station to Beliatta and from Beliatta to Kankasanthurai.

Another all night Pirith chanting has been organized in front of the Ruwanweli Seya on the 22nd of this month. About 500 Buddhist monks will take part in this event.

Meanwhile, DIG of North Central Province Senarath Sandungahawatte told SLBC that a special security plan will be implemented for the safety of pilgrims who will gather at Anuradhapura, Mihintale and Thanthirimale sacred areas during the upcoming Poson season.

A special operational unit will be set up at the Anuradhapura District Secretariat to coordinate the police, three armed forces and other institutions that provide services for the pilgrims.

The DIG says that the police and the armed forces are ready to face any threat with regard to the security of the pilgrims during the Poson season. Therefore, pilgrims and the people in the area need not have any fear or suspicion regarding the security.
