(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Measures should be taken to strengthen State Banks but not to privatize them, President MaithripalaSirisena emphasized.
He said it is his continued policy.
The President made these comments at a ceremony to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) held at BMICH yesterday (30).
Bank of Ceylon, a pioneer in delivering an unparalleled service to its customers spearheads to transform itself into the leading financial service provider in the country with a range of services such as commercial banking, market financing, developmental financial services, mortgage, financial services among other celebrates 80 years in business this year under the theme of “Moving Forward with Innovation”.
Addressing the gathering, the President further said the pitiful situation at state institutes which generate income to the government created by corruption, inefficient management and despotic activities of trade unions is an open secret.
States Banks function as pillars for such institutes to lean on said the President while commending the mission of the BOC to empower the national economy.
A Commemorative Stamp and a First Day cover were also issued to mark the anniversary of the Bank.
A memento was presented to the President.
Prime Minister RanilWickremesinghe, Speaker KaruJayasuriya, Chairman of BOC Ronald C. Perera and its Chief Executive Officer SenarathBandara were among the large gathering of invitees.
