(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe has instructed the leaders of the United National Front (UNF) to prepare for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha polls.
Premier Wickramasinghe after returning to the island from his tour of the Maldives had a special discussion on the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha polls with Bentara Elpitiya Electoral organizer Minister Gayantha Karunatilaka and Minister Vajira Abeywardena.
The Prime Minister has made it clear to the leaders of the United National Party (UNP) and the UNF that they should first face the Pradeshiya Sabha polls irrespective of who is to contest the Presidential election.
In addition, the United National Party mentioned that discussions had also been held with UNP Chairman Minister Kabir Hashim and General Secretary Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
Meanwhile, on the instructions of the Prime Minister an inquiry has begun with respect to an incident of two non-cabinet Ministers forcibly collecting signatures from the Parliamentarians while the Prime Minister was away on his visit to the Maldives.
Reportedly, the two non-cabinet ministers have asked MPs to sign the document if they want to get nominations at the general election after the presidential election.
Several Senior Ministers had apprised the Prime Minister of this incident and accordingly an inquiry has begun.
