(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today rejected allegations made by President Maithripala Sirisena on former Director General of the Bribery Commission Dilrukshi Dias Wickremasinghe.
The President had claimed yesterday that the Prime Minister had requested him to appoint Dilrukshi Dias Wickremasinghe as a Supreme Court judge.
The Prime Minister however said in a statement today that there was no truth to the claims.
He said that only the Chief Justice and Attorney General can make recommendations on appointing a Supreme Court judge.
“I have not submitted any request to appoint anyone as a Supreme Court judge,” the Prime Minister said.
He also said that the allegations against Dilrukshi Dias Wickremasinghe must be investigated.
The Prime Minister also questioned why the President continues to attack him after the Presidential elections have been declared.
In a leaked recording of a telephone conversation released last week Wickremasinghe is heard expressing regret over the action taken on Avant-Garde.
She said that had she known several people will lose their jobs she would not have taken legal action.
The Attorney General has referred the telephone conversation to the Public Service Commission for investigations.
