(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – A Duty Free officer at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has been arrested while trying to smuggle out gold worth Rs 40 million.
According to Customs Spokesman Sunil Jayaratne, Customs officers attached to the Narcotics Control unit of the BIA had detected 40 gold biscuits and one kilo of gold jewelry hidden on the person of the Duty Free officer.
The detection was made upon intelligence received by Customs officials.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Customs Department.
