SriLankan Airlines crew who brought back 33 Lankans from Wuhan declines incentives

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The SriLankan Airlines crew including Chief Captain Chaminda de Soysa who flew to Wuhan, China, the epicenter of deadly coronavirus outbreak, to bring home 33 Sri Lankans trapped in the locked down city, has declined to accept the special incentive given to them by the Company for their participation in the mission.

The crew of the “Mercy Mission” has asked the administration to use the funds allocated for the incentives to provide face masks, gloves and other sanitary requirements for the ground staff of the airline in Wuhan, who assisted the operation.

Chaminda de Zoysa and Sanjaya Anushka Jeewandara functioned as the Chief Pilots of the SriLankan Airlines flight UL 1423 to Wuhan and Shehan Seneviratne and Ravin Ranatunga were assistant pilots.

The other members of the crew included Farhan Haniffa, Saminda Perera, Jennely Jansz, Kosan Anurudha, Danidu Dunusinghe, Dinuk Mannapperuma, Wasim Mohamed, Amali Pathirathnage, L.D.M. Pathberiya, Darshana Dissanayake, B.P.R.D. Pathiraja and Malisha Prasad.

It is noteworthy that all SriLankan Airlines personnel who traveled to Wuhan, China volunteered to rescue the 33 Sri Lankans trapped in the city due to the deadly coronavirus.
