(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that the Presidential Secretariat would write back to Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya on the suspension of the training of newly recruited graduates.
Speaking to the Heads of Media at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday, the President questioned the rationale of suspending the training of graduates to whom the appointments have already been given.
“This programme was not aimed at the elections. It was specifically mentioned in my election manifesto that all unemployed graduates would be given jobs. This was done without considering their political party affiliations or ethnic group. The training is not political, but duty oriented. We do not see any fair reason to delay it. Then we will have to stop all training programmes in the entire public service,” the President commented.
The President said that he would inform the Election Commission that the Government prefers to go ahead with the training. The President added that the nominations for the elections were yet to be called.
Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundera also participated.
