(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Eleven Navy personnel were identified among the 13 confirmed COVID-19 patients detected in Sri Lanka yesterday.
Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said the 11 Navy personnel were detected from within the Navy Camp in Welisara.
Among the remaining 2 patients, one has been identified as a relative of a Navy personnel, while the other has been identified as a resident of Kerawalapitiya who had come into contact with an infected Navy officer.
The two individuals are undergoing quarantine, he said.
The Army Commander further said that the spread of COVID-19 has been contained in Sri Lanka, mainly due to the quarantine process and efficient contact tracing.
Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients detected in Sri Lanka stands at 718 as of this morning.
The Ministry of Health says among the 718 infected patients, 527 have been reported as active cases.
Close to 176 individuals are admitted to various hospitals on suspicion of having contracted the virus.
The Ministry said 184 persons, including 183 Sri Lankans and a Chinese woman, have recovered so far and have been discharged from hospital.
Seven deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported so far, it added.
