(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka Police have launched a massive operation in the Western Province to completely eliminate the underworld and narcotics trade, which is mainly operated by the convicted underworld gang members from the prisons.
Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon addressing media said that the police are working to eradicate drug and underworld identifying the interconnected links between drug dealers and underworld operatives.
He said two people have been arrested with more than one and a half kilograms of heroin worth over Rs, 10 million in the Pettah area and in the last 24 hours the Vice Unit of the Central Colombo Police division during the operations conducted in the Western Province has arrested over 450 people for drug dealing.
The Officer explained that the drug trade and the underworld crimes are interconnected and the police hope to control both in a short time.
