(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Department of Government Printing is currently working on the duties of the upcoming General Election adhering strictly to hygienic procedures for the prevention of Covid-19 outbreak, Ms. Gangani Liyanage, the Government Printer said.
Issuing a Press Release regarding the manner in which the Department of Government Printing is engaged in the duties assigned to the Department in forthcoming general election efficiently adhering to hygienic procedures, the official said arrangements have been made to accomplish all the duties of the Government Printing Department efficiently, with maximum use of the labor force.
Ms. Liyanage said the election-organizing period is much longer in this election than other elections due to the need of adopting hygienic procedures. Hence, the printing work related to the election will have to be accomplished efficiently and handed over to the Election Commission.
Ballot paper printing activities commenced on 4th June and the work is being carried out with the support of the entire staff except the groups at health risk. The printing duties of the Government Printing Department include printing of ballot papers and many other related printing duties. Simultaneously the other Institutional duties of the department should also be carried out.
Steps have been taken to perform all the duties of the department efficiently ensuring the health of the staff in carrying out their duties. Steps are taken to follow the health guidelines and update the internal circulars and instructions of the Department continuously in relation to the prevention of Covid-19 outbreak. A number of internal security measures such as disinfection activities, social distancing and the provision of health care facilities to employees are practiced regularly. At the same time, employees at health risk are not called for duties.
The ballot papers for all districts have already been printed. The remaining affiliated duties are also completed in due course. The Department of Government Printing has taken all measures to accomplish the election printing process on time, the Government Printer said.
