Another 196 COVID-19 patents identified from Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Another 196 people at the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu have tested positive for COVID-19, the Government Information Department said on Friday (July 10).

The results of 338 tests conducted on the inmates and staff at the Kandakadu Center for the Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts have been received this morning identifying 196 positive cases of COVID-19 the Government Information Department said in a release.

Accordingly, with the 56 positive cases identified Thursday (09), the total number of COVID-19 cases reported so far at the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu adds up to 252, the statement said.

On Thursday (July 9), Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe confirmed that 56 inmates and a counsellor at the Center in Kandakadu tested positive for COVID-19.

The Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe has said that more PCR tests are already being conducted and there is a tendency to report more COVID-19 infections.

The Government Information Department said in the meantime PCR tests and quarantine process have been continuously carried out in the Kandakadu Center, after contact tracing the inmates who have completed their rehabilitation and left the Center and their associates in order to prevent transmission of the virus to the society from the Kandakadu cluster.

Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva yesterday assured that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent the COVID-19 virus transmission to society from the prison cluster.
