(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that 67,000 people island wide are currently under quarantine.
They belong to 25,000 families, most of them from Colombo and Gampaha districts, he said.
Police Media Spokesman stated that 556 persons who left the Western Province in defiance of instructions have been placed under quarantine at their current locations.
With the imposition of a curfew in the Western Province from midnight on Thursday (29) to tomorrow (02), it is reported that more than 80,000 vehicles have left the Katunayake-Colombo expressway, Kerawalapitiya Outer Circular Highway and the Southern Expressway on Thursday.
Accordingly 11,450 vehicles have left through the Katunayake Expressway, 38,260 vehicles from the Kerawalapitiya Outer Circular Highway and 31,200 vehicles from the Southern Expressway.
It is said that by these vehicles a large number of people have gone to other districts from the Western Province.
In addition, the police intelligence unit has received information that a large number of people have entered the outskirts through ordinary main roads and inland roads.
Residents outside Colombo have also gone to the countryside in these vehicles. It is also revealed that the people have also gone on excursions to outskirts.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the vehicles returning to the area will be subjected to strict inspection when they return to the Western Province next Monday and if they do not provide evidence regarding the date and place of departure, strict legal action will be taken against them.
