Sri Lanka Army appoints senior Army officers for COVID-19 control in districts

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Sri Lanka Army has appointed 25 senior officers as District Coordinating Officers covering all administrative districts islandwide to strengthen the COVID-19 control.

Considering the urgent need for enhanced island-wide coordination for COVID-19 control work, the Presidential Secretariat on the recommendation of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defense Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID -19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), has appointed 25 Senior Army Officers for all districts, effective from 01 January 2021, the Army said in a statement.

The new Coordinating Officers have been the responsibilities by the Presidential Secretariat to reduce the impact of epidemic on normal activities and to coordinate COVID suppression activities among the Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Disaster Management etc.

Accordingly, the new office of those Chief Coordinating Officers would facilitate smooth conduct of district-wise Quarantine Centers, Transportation of Individuals for Quarantining and Treatment, Supply of Medicine, Equipment, Dry-rations and other Essentials and all other technical requirements as and when deemed necessary, the Army said.
