(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday (18) decided to convene Parliament today (19) and tomorrow (20) in strict compliance with health guidelines.
Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said that it was decided to continue the proceedings of Parliament while fully adhering to the Covid-19 health regulations.
The Secretary General said that six provisions under the Special Commodity Tax Act and a resolution under the Customs Ordinance will be taken up for debate in Parliament when it reconvenes at 10.00 am today.
From 10.00 am to 11.00 am, Members of Parliament will be allotted oral questions, which will be limited to ten questions.
Mr. Dasanayake said that the adjournment motion moved by National People’s Power MP Anura Dissanayake will be taken up for debate for the second day tomorrow (20). The debate will be held from 11.00 am to 4.30 pm.
The Adjournment Motion is moved on the non-implementation of the orders issued by the Extraordinary Gazette Notifications submitted by the Ministers under various Rules and Regulations approved by the Parliament.
The Parliamentary session on that day will be held without interruption for lunch. On the same day an hour from 10.00 am to 11.00 am is set aside for oral questions of the Members of Parliament.
Several doctors from the Office of the Director General of Health Services, who recently conducted PCR tests in Parliament, were also called before the Committee on Parliamentary Business for the purpose of consultation regarding the conduct of Parliamentary sittings adhering with all health guidelines.
