Ajith Nivard Cabraal appointed as Central Bank Governor

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed Mr. Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka with effect from September 15, 2021, President’s Media Division announced.

Mr. Ajith Nivard Cabraal will assume duties as the new Governor of the Central Bank on the 15th.

The former State Minister of Money & Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms resigned from his position as a Member of Parliament Monday, in order to assume the new post, which was left vacant by the resignation of current governor, Prof. W.D. Lakshman, with effect from tomorrow (14).

Mr. Cabraal is a Chartered Accountant by profession. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Cabraal also served as a Ministry Secretary as well as he was also served as the Governor of the Central Bank for nearly 09 years.
