Ministry of Health appoints 1401 interns to island wide hospitals

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Ministry of Health has taken steps to appoint 1401 Intern Medical Officers to fill vacancies in hospitals island wide.

Health Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella presented appointments to 1,401 interns at the National Blood Transfusion Center in Narahenpita yesterday (25).

The new medical officers will be attached to 64 hospitals across the country for one year internship under specialist doctors.

Appointments were officially made to a group of interns, while other recipients from across the country joined the event via zoom.

Meanwhile, 318 internship appointments were made in June and the Ministry of Health has taken steps to provide 1,719 such appointments this year.

Of the appointments made yesterday, 1,066 were medical students of Sri Lankan universities and 335 were medical students studied at foreign universities.

Doctors who successfully complete one year of internship will be fully registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council and will then have the opportunity to work as a doctor.
