Sri Lanka’s health system can control any new variant – Minister of Health

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of Health says that the Sri Lankan health system can control any new variant of the virus that may enter Sri Lanka in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

At a special discussion held at the Ministry of Health yesterday (26), the Health Minister pointed out that despite the misconceptions of some people, the country’s health system is capable to face any situation. Health Minister also said he will ensure that the health system does not collapse in any way.

State Ministers Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle and Prof. Channa Jayasumana were also present on the occasion. In addition, a group of officials from the Ministry of Health and State Ministries were also present.

The Minister said that with the new variant, the world statistics are somewhat shocking when looking at the records but there is a high level of confidence in the Sri Lankan health service even internationally.

The Minister pointed out that the high commitment of everyone was a great strength in controlling the disaster and that despite the behavior of the new variant, the vaccine was able to reduce the spread of the virus and the death toll.

The Minister pointed out that despite some allegations that sufficient beds and oxygen stocks are unavailable; they are able to function the health system at optimum level and provide services to the public without any shortage.
