Sri Lanka President invites Saudi Arabia to directly invest in agriculture, renewable energy

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has invited Saudi Arabia to make direct investments in several areas when he met with the visiting Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday morning (14).

The President pointed out the opportunities for foreign investment in agriculture, renewable energy generation, technological development and opportunities near the port cities.

President Rajapaksa drew Saudi Foreign Minister’s attention to the impact of the Covid epidemic on the Sri Lankan economy, pointing out the impact of declining remittances, the collapse of the tourism industry, the impact of dry weather on power generation and the emerging fuel demand.

The Saudi Foreign Minister said that his country was also paying special attention to renewable energy generation and was ready to extend assistance to Sri Lanka.

Further strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries was also discussed.

Saudi Ambassador to Sri Lanka Abdul Nasir Al Farhat, Director General of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdul Rahman Al Dawood, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. GL Peiris, Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath and Foreign Secretary Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage were also present.
