India extends full support to Sri Lanka to resolve agricultural issues

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay says the Government of India will extend its full support to Sri Lanka to address the problems in the country’s agricultural sector.

Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera recently met the Indian High Commissioner at the High Commission and sought India’s help for food security and environmental protection.

Talks focused on the 65,000 metric tons of urea promised by India last month, to avoid any disruption to the current Yala season.

High Commissioner Baglay commented that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the urea consignment donation which will travel directly to Sri Lanka from its origin in Oman. The Indian High Commissioner assured that Sri Lanka would receive the consignment as soon as possible.
