(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The Government has focused on providing the necessary facilities to direct public servants to private sector employment in the country. Steps have been taken to appoint a seven member committee to look into the possibility.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs said it was studying whether public servants could be allowed to work in the private sector or in other jobs on five years’ unpaid leave.
The report of the committee is due within two weeks and its recommendations will be submitted to the Cabinet soon.
Such a system is already in operation in some foreign countries. What happens there is that students who complete their degrees from universities are directed to private sector jobs on government paid salaries. Its purpose is to increase their productivity.
