Police curfew lifted

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Police curfew which was declared in parts of the Western Province last night, has been lifted at 8am today.

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) had said that the Police curfew was “blatantly illegal”.

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka had also directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to withdraw the curfew.

The Police said that the curfew had been declared in the Negombo police area, Kelaniya police area, Nugegoda police area, Mount Lavinia police area, Colombo North police area, Colombo South police area and Colombo Central police area.

The Police had urged residents in the areas to stay indoors during the curfew.

The Police had said that the law will be strictly enforced against those who violate the curfew.
