(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – An Australian court has refused to grant bail to Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka, who is charged over an alleged sexual assault of a Sydney woman.
Mr. Gunathilaka will remain behind bars after Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on Monday refused to grant bail on the grounds that he is a foreigner and it is uncertain that he will be at the given address.
Dhanushka Gunathilaka has been accused of four sexual assault charges and was presented before the Sydney court yesterday (7) through video technology for bail.
The 31-year-old cricketer faces four counts of sexual intercourse without consent allegedly committed over a two-hour period at Rose Bay on November 2.
He was wearing a gray T-shirt with blue jeans and handcuffed when he appeared in the Downing Centre by audio-visual link through only to confirm his identity.
Gunathilaka’s lawyer Ananda Amaranath said his client was disappointed his bail application had not been granted, a Daily Mail report said.
