(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe says that the Minister of Finance, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has assured their continuous support to Sri Lanka. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Government of Pakistan jointly organized the Sustainable Development Goals SDG Forum from December 05th to 07th in Islamabad, Pakistan. The state minister also addressed the opening session of this forum.
During this forum, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe has had a bilateral discussion with the Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Dr. Armida SalsiaAlizjabana, Minister of Finance of Pakistan, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, as well as Minister of Planning and Development Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Choudy.
In this forum, the effects of the global economic challenges faced by all countries across the region and the future measures to overcome those challenges have been discussed. Also, the importance of a collective regional approach to reduce the economic and various global challenges currently faced by the regional countries was also discussed, the State Minister of Finance said.
This year’s theme of the Forum was “Accelerating Recovery from the Crisis of the Covid-19 Pandemic and the Ukraine War”. The objective of the Forum was to create a deeper and shared understanding among Member States and multi-stakeholders on the opportunities for accelerating the implementation of strategies at the sub-regional levels, with particular focus on the many important areas of the 2030 Agenda.
