(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) says that all Sri Lankans going overseas for employment with tourist visas will be blacklisted.
Issuing a statement, the Bureau of Foreign Employment said legal action will be taken under the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau Act against those who go abroad in this way.
The SLBFE further said that measures have been taken to bring back the Sri Lankan women who were stranded in Oman and who are currently in safety centers under the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman.
The Bureau said the first group of 08 women arrived in Sri Lanka on 24th December 2022, and the second group of 6 women are expected to arrive in the country today.
The SLBFE said 18 women who had illegally travelled to Oman under tourist visas to obtain jobs are currently absconding. The women who had run away from their places of employment have been blacklisted by Oman’s Ministry of Labor, the statement said.
The SLBFE said that measures are being taken to repatriate them to Sri Lanka after obtaining the necessary approval from their employers.
The cost of tickets for the repatriation of the group which is considered to be living in Oman illegally will have to be borne by their relevant families, the SLBFE said.
