No recognition of political parties if failed to submit audited accounts for 2021 within 14 days, EC warns

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –Recognized political parties must submit their audited statements of accounts to the Election Commission, and those political parties that fail to submit audited accounts for 2021 within 14 days from Thursday (March 16) will be removed from the list of recognized parties, the Election Commission (EC) warned.

Pursuant to Section 8(04) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1981, recognized political parties must submit audited party accounts to the Election Commission.

However, the Commission has repeatedly informed the recognized political parties which had failed to submit their audited account reports for 2021 to hand them over to the Commission.

Also, a discussion with the secretaries of the political parties contesting for the 2023 local government election polls will be held on March 23 at 10 a.m.

The Election Commission at its meeting yesterday has decided to release the official statements or information related to the Elections Commission to all media institutions weekly or earlier as needed with the signature of the Election Commission Chairman.

In addition, the Commission decided to request all media institutions to refrain from receiving and publishing unofficial announcements or information from other parties, other than the Elections Commission and also not to take responsibility for false announcements or information.
