(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – With the increased risk of dengue spreading in the Western Province, the education authorities have focused on taking necessary measures to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne disease in the school premises in that province.
Western Provincial Education Director Sri Lal Nonis said that a special discussion was held under the leadership of Western Provincial Governor Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonetileke and health department officials to discuss this matter.
The Western Provincial Education Director mentioned that it was also proposed to issue a series of new instructions to the principals regarding the running of school activities while controlling the spread of dengue.
Accordingly, he further mentioned that a series of new instructions will be issued for the principals in the coming week to make the school premises a safe place free from the risk of dengue.
Western Provincial Education Director Sri Lal Nonis further said that the principals have been instructed to clean the school premises by involving the school staff, students and parents as per the need.
Meanwhile, Central Provincial Education Director Amarasiri Piyadasa said that the Zonal Directors have been instructed to maintain an environment free from the spread of dengue in the schools of the Central Province as the risk of the spread of dengue continues to increase with the rainy weather.
