SLFP decides not to take disciplinary action against six members who joined the government

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – It has been decided to suspend the disciplinary measures against six members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, who have joined the government and obtained ministerial portfolios.

Sri Lanka Freedom Party Chairman Mr. Maithripala Sirisena has informed the relevant MPs in writing that this decision was taken after considering the ruling given by the Court of Appeal.

In the relevant letter, it has been informed that the resolution submitted to the Central Committee as the party chairman was unanimously adopted and it was decided to suspend the disciplinary action.

Accordingly, the disciplinary measures implemented against Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Mahinda Amaraweera, State Ministers Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Jagath Pushpakumara and Chamara Sampath Dassanayake are suspended.

After the six MPs joined the government and obtained Ministerial posts, the SLFP initiating disciplinary action suspend them and removed them from posts they held in the party.

However, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva challenged the party’s decision in court.
