(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Education, Dr. Susil Premajayantha said in Parliament yesterday (19) that the teacher vacancies in estate schools will be filled by next year.
He said that no community will be allowed to be marginalized in the field of education.
The Minister said the basic activities required to establish a university based in Nuwara Eliya district are currently being carried out.
The Minister further said he visited the Kotagala area recently and joined an observation tour of the schools in plantations.
He explained that the schools initially belonged to respective plantation companies later became plantation schools, but later most of these schools were controlled by the provincial councils, especially in Uva Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Teachers were appointed to these plantation schools in their respective areas. But language issues arose there.
The Minister said he has given instructions to conduct a census of these plantation schools. Tamil language teachers are expected to be recruited according to the needs of those areas. There are a large number of teacher assistants recruited in the Central Province.
Accordingly, he expects to fill the teacher vacancies in estate schools by next year, the Minister said.
