Government doing utmost to prevent sugar shortage or unnecessary price increase – State Minister Siyambalapitiya

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –  Minister of State for Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya emphasizes that 19,000 metric tons of sugar imported before the tax hike are still available in the country and therefore there is no chance of a sugar shortage or unnecessary price increase.

While speaking to the media after a ceremony held in Ilukthenna area of Deraniyagala, the Minister pointed out that the Consumer Affairs Authority is conducting operations to find traders who sell sugar at prices above the control price.

Pointing out that it is the responsibility of not only the government but also the people to buy sugar at the right price and prevent unnecessary sugar shortage, the minister said the consumer should inform the Consumer Affairs Authority about instances of price increases of sugar.
