Second Reading of the 2024 budget passed by a majority vote

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill for the year 2024 was passed in the Parliament yesterday (21) by a majority of 45 votes.

When the Second Reading vote was held this evening, 122 votes were cast in favor while 77 votes were against it.

On the 13 November, President Ranil Wickramasinghe in his capacity as the Minister of Finance presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill to Parliament and the Second Reading debate began on 14th November.

From November 14th to date (21), the debate on the Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill (Budget) was held for 7 days excluding Sundays.

the Committee stage debate is scheduled to be held for 19 days beginning from tomorrow (22nd November).

The Third Reading or the Committee Stage debate will be held for 19 days from tomorrow (22nd) to December 13th excluding Sundays.

The vote on the Third Reading of the budget for the financial year 2024 is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, December 13th at 6.00 p.m.
