(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Parliamentarian Nimal Lanza yesterday assured that the Presidential election will take place within the designated timeframe in accordance with the Constitution, and the government has no plans to postpone it.
In a statement, Lanza stated that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has given assurance that the Presidential election will be held within the specified timeframe as mandated by the Constitution, with a commitment to safeguarding democracy.
Lanza said that the government led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe shares the same stance on the upcoming Presidential election.
He noted that different parties and individuals have the freedom to express their views or suggest delaying the presidential or parliamentary election by two years.
“However, it should be noted that these views are solely those of the individuals or parties and do not reflect the official position of the government”, he stressed.
Lanza emphasized that it is the duty of the Election Commission to ensure that the presidential election is held within the specified timeframe as outlined in the Constitution.
