WHO Chief thanks Sri Lankan President for ‘mobilizing the whole government’ against COVID-19

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has telephoned Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa Tuesday to discuss the health and economic impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on Sri Lanka and the region.

“I had a good call with Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, on COVID19 today. We discussed health and economic impacts COVID19 can have on his country and the whole region,” the WHO Chief tweeted.

Dr. Tedros has thanked the President for “mobilizing the whole-of-government in the fight against the coronavirus. Together!”

Responding to the WHO Chief’s tweet, the President thanked the Director General for his support to Sri Lanka and the “immense work done by the WHO in the global pandemic caused by COVIDー19.”

“We will continue to collaborate with WHO to bring it under control,” President Rajapaksa said.
