National Poson Week declared from June 2-8

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Sunanda Kariyapperuma stated that the National Poson Week is declared from the 2nd to the 8th of June.

The Department of Buddhist Affairs requests the public to hold this year’s Poson festival with the participation of a limited number of people.

He said this year the Poson Poya will be marked under the theme “Arogya Parama Labha” (Health is the ultimate profit) and the state Poson festival will be held centered around Mihintale.

The State Poson Festival will be held on June 4, 5 and 6 in Mihintale. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the chief guests at the events held at Mihintale and Anuradhapura sacred cities. Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa will inaugurate the three- day event on June 4. The Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs stated that this year holding Poson dansels with gathering of people are prohibited.

He said that the temples have been instructed to perform all religious activities strictly adhering to social distancing and quarantine regulations, and the advice of health officials.
