(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has advised the airport authorities to act in a manner that will not cause any delay or inconvenience to any passenger on arrival or departure.
During an emergency inspection tour of the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport this afternoon, the President also instructed the authorities to ensure that the security measures at the airport do not inconvenience the public.
During the tour President Rajapaksa observed the process from the time a passenger arrives at the airport to the entry to the aircraft through departure terminal. The time taken for an arriving passenger to depart the airport and the process were also extensively reviewed by the President.
Upon inspecting both arrivals and departure terminals, the President instructed the Director General of Immigration and Emigration to deploy adequate officers for immigration and emigration activities and take maximum measures to ensure speedy processing and minimize the delays for the passengers.
The President pointed out that by setting up two separate terminals, one for arrivals and one for departures, efficient service can be provided to passengers. He also advised the authorities to expedite the construction of the new passenger terminal.
President Rajapaksa advised the Chairman of the Airport Maj. Gen. G A Chandrasiri to set up a separate terminal for taxis to improve the service with purpose of eliminating passenger inconvenience.
The President also exchanged pleasantries with arriving and departing passengers at the airport and commended the Chairman and the staff on the efficiency of the airport services.
