AstraZeneca second dose to be given from 23rd

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, said it will be decided today (19) whether the second dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine will be given 10 or 12 weeks after the first dose.

He said the committee on vaccinations would meet at the Epidemiology Unit to take a decision Sunday.

The second dose of Covishield vaccine was scheduled to begin on Friday the 23rd.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, the first dose of the Covishield vaccine has been given to 925,242 people since the vaccination drive began on 29 January 2021.

Meanwhile, more stocks of vaccines are expected to arrive in the country in the coming days, according to health officials.
